Do what helps, stop what harms
Are you feeling tired, brain fog, aches and pains, or experiencing weight issues? You might be thinking this just what happens when you get older, but you don't have to settle for feeling mediocre.
Supporting your body and mind can make a huge impact on how you feel. And can reverse many of the symptoms you're experiencing that are typically chalked up to aging. You can boost your energy, confidence, mood, and weight regulation.
The first steps, below, are adapted from Dr. Daniel Amen's book that I'm currently reading, Unleash the Power of the Female Brain: Supercharging Yours for Better Health, Energy, Mood Focus, and Sex:
Avoid anything that hurts your overall health (ex. bad food, insufficient sleep, chronic stress, over-exercizing); and
Consistently do the things that help your health (ex. eating well, sleeping well, deliberate de-stressing, movement, addressing underlying negative thought patterns.)
The first, and most important step to rebuilding health, is eating well because food is what are bodies and brains are made of. If you're eating and drinking poorly, you're going to feel poorly. It really is that simple.
What is not so simple, is that our food quality and nutrient-density is not what it used to be and so you may need to supplement if you're looking to optimize how you feel. Another factor is, due to the changes in our food production (GMOs were widely introduced in the 1990's), many of us have developed hidden food sensitivities that are coming out in all sorts of symptoms that may seem unrelated, but are driven by eating healthy foods - sometimes every day - that we have an intolerance to. This will contribute to systemic inflammation in the body and brain. Inflammation not only causes symptoms, but can lead to diagnosable diseases.
Everyone can benefit from a nutrient-dense, anti-inflammatory diet. But how will you know if what foods and food chemicals you are eating, inflaming or are anti-inflammatory for you? The answer is a food sensitivity test, so you can get a list of your best foods to support your health goals.
Here are a few examples of healthy foods that have shown up as the most reactive foods for me and my clients: spinach, corn, soy, walnut, cashew, wheat, whey, zucchini, asparagus, cilantro, cabbage, tea.
Surprising, right? Test, don't guess. That is how to start on the path back toward better health, if you've been struggling.
