Teeter totter or Seesaw?

What did you call that piece of playground equipment when you were a kid? I’d love to know.

I was thinking about how far I’d fallen off my usual healthy eating and drinking over the holidays and the effects that’s had - sending all sorts of things out of balance. Things like my motivation in the evening, mood, tight pants, loss of muscle strength, sore back, kink in my neck, and strong urge to hibernate instead of any sort of movement.

It’s like being on the teeter-totter when you’re the heavier one, so that you never quite get to the top to feel that weightless feeling. Do you know what I mean, you’re stuck between the ground and the mid-way point. Feeling heavy - literally and figuratively. I liken that to what’s been going on for the last few months.

But now, it’s like I’ve hit the ground with a hard thud because the other person jumped off without warning. Rude!

Can I really blame them? It’s not that fun when there is a major imbalance, so they stopped playing. It’s a wake-up call. I don’t want to feel that heavy feeling any more - in all the senses of the word. I want to work towards that lighter feeling.

I know how to do this — by proactively working restorative practices into my routine. I’m not as young as I used to be and my body just doesn’t effortlessly bounce back anymore. It takes consistent small steps stacked on top of each other to climb out of the hole.

I heard a quote recently from writer Dan Koe, “If you want a specific outcome in life, you must have the lifestyle that creates that outcome long before you reach it.” And, may I add, the “why” for that outcome and the mindset to take action.

Okay, so its not a quick fix. There is no magic pill. But there is a solution, i.e. lifestyle design. And that is hopeful. Especially now, when hope that things will get better is more important than ever.

If you’d like to take the first step in getting clear on those outcomes you’re working toward, click here to download my 2026 “Business Plan” for a Happier Life. I just completed mine in about an hour - so even the busiest person can get it done. It feels really grounding to know where I'm headed and to reiterate my priorities.
